An Empirical Model of Daily Highs and Lows
نویسندگان
چکیده
We construct an empirical model for daily highs and daily lows of US stock indexes based on the intuition that highs and lows do not drift apart over time. Our empirical results show that daily highs and lows of three main US stock price indexes are cointegrated. Data on openings, closings, and trading volume are found to offer incremental explanatory power for variations in highs and lows within the VECM framework. With all these variables, the augmented VECM models explain 40% to 50% of variations in daily highs and lows. The generalized impulse response analysis shows that the responses of daily highs and daily lows to the shocks depend on whether data on openings, closings, and trading volume are included in the analysis.

Attention or instruction: Do sustained attentional abilities really differ between high and low hypnotisable persons?
Previous research has suggested that highly hypnotisable participants ('highs') are more sensitive to the bistability of ambiguous figures-as evidenced by reporting more perspective changes of a Necker cube-than low hypnotisable participants ('lows'). This finding has been interpreted as supporting the hypothesis that highs have more efficient sustained attentional abilities than lows. However,...
متن کاملHypnotizability and Temporal Dynamics of Attention: a Study on the Attentional Blink Effect
This study was designed to seek hypnotizability-related differences in attention temporal dynamics. For this purpose, an iconic version of the Attentional Blink Task (AB) was performed on 18 highly (Highs, score 9–12, SHSS form C) and 18 low susceptible individuals (Lows, score 0–3). The procedure consisted of two tasks in which two animal shapes (a coloured animal, Target, and a black butterfl...
متن کاملCognitive Modulation of Psychophysical, Respiratory and Autonomic Responses to Cold Pressor Test
In healthy subjects with high hypnotisability (highs) under hypnosis, subjectively effective suggestions for analgesia abolish the increases in blood pressure associated with cold pressor test (cpt) by reducing the peripheral vascular resistance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the suggestions of analgesia on the responses to cpt in healthy highs (n = 22) and in l...
متن کاملImage Enhancement Using Adaptive Filtering
In this paper, we develop an image enhancement algorithm that modifies the local luminance mean of an image and controls the local contrast as a function of the local luminance mean of the image. The algorithm first separates an image into its lows (low pass filtered form) and highs (high pass filtered form) components. The lows component then controls the amplitude of the highs component to in...
متن کاملThe neurophenomenology of neutral hypnosis.
INTRODUCTION After a hypnotic induction, medium and highly hypnotizable individuals often report spontaneous alterations in various dimensions of consciousness. Few studies investigating these experiences have controlled for the inherent demands of specific hypnotic suggestions and fewer still have considered their dynamic properties and neural correlates. METHODS We adopted a neurophenomenol...
